What is a personal budget? 


A personal budget is the amount of money your local authority (LA) identifies to pay for the support in your child or young person’s EHC plan. It can include funding from:

How can a personal budget be managed? 

There are four ways: 

  1. Direct Payments – you receive the money and arrange the support. 
  1. Notional Budget – the LA or school/college holds the money and arranges the support. 
  1. Third-party arrangements – an independent organisation manages the budget for you. 
  1. Combination – a mix of the above.
